William
Peniston, The Newark Museum, presided over the annual meeting in Los Angeles on
April 1, 2001. In absentia, Bill Bunce, Director Emeritus of the Kohler Art
Library at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, succeeded him as Moderator
for 2001-2002. Stephen Patrick, East Tennessee State University, was elected
Vice Moderator.
In
June, Bill Bunce announced that, due to personal reasons, he would not be able
to continue to serve as Moderator. In consultation with the Past Moderator, the
Vice Moderator, and the President of Arlis/NA, William Peniston was prevailed
upon to serve an extra year as Moderator.
The
group made a proposal for a session entitled "Censored Sexualities? Erotica
in Libraries and Visual Resource Centers" to the Joint Committee of the VRA/ARLIS
Conference in St. Louis in 2002. The Committee did not accept the proposal, so
for the first time in many years, GLIRT will not be represented on the
conference program.
In
August, William Peniston and Ted Goodman met with Clayton Kirking of the Estates
Project and Christopher Hagan of Visual AIDS to discuss the possibility of using
GLIRT members as resources of information on contemporary artists. Neither GLIRT
the Estates Project nor Visual AIDS followed through on this conversation.
The
listserv, GLIRT-L, continues to serve its members as a means of communication.
It is still maintained by Eric Schwab at Cornell University. To subscribe to the
list, send the message "SUBSCRIBE GLIRT-L" to listproc@cornell.edu. To
unsubscribe, send the message "UNSUBSCRIBE GLIRT-L" to the same email
address. For problems, contact Eric Schwab at ecs13@cornell.edu.
The
Website, http://www.pitt.edu/~frickart/arlis/glirt.htm, is still maintained by
James M. Viskochil, now at the Brooklyn Museum, and it is still hosted by the
Frick Fine Arts Library at the University of Pittsburgh.
