Executive Board Activities:
Attended annual (2001 Los Angeles) and mid-year
(2001 New York City) board
meetings. Participated in board deliberations, motions, and other activities.
Member, CPAC for 2001 Los Angeles Conference.
Served as Board liaison for the Publications
Committee, International
Relations Committee, and Gerd Muehsam Award Committee.
Served as Board liaison to the West region
chapters; Southern California,
Northern California, Mt. West, and NW.
Member, Executive Board Sub-committee on Finances.
Committee Activities:
Publications Committee
Pricing & financial information: All Society
publication prices have been
increased by 25%. Individual members will receive at 15% discount. HQ
designed and is producing quarterly sales reports for the chair of the
Publications Committee.
Update: Issues concerning electronic format of
Update were resolved. The
pdf version will be produced until December 2001. In 2002, an html version
will be implemented. A lightly edited Word version will be available for
creating paper copies for mailing as requested by members. Job ads are no
longer placed in Update.
Occasional Papers: Financial analysis/business
plans are now being
constructed by the OP editor and HQ for proposed Occasional Papers.
Occasional Paper #13,
"Bibliographic Instruction Casebook/Instruction for Design Students:
Scenarios, Resources, and Techniques" edited by Jeanne Brown was approved
for publication by the Executive Board.
Art Documentation: Honorarium was approved for
the Reviews Editor. New
editors were appointed, Tom Jacoby and Kathy Zimon.
International Relations Committee
Arrangements were made to forward all affiliate
publications from HQ to the
chair of the IRC.
Gerd Muehsam Award Committee
Increased award amounts and benefits for the Gerd
Muehsam Award were
proposed and approved by the Executive Board: $500.00 cash, $300.00 travel
reimbursement, free registration to attend the annual conference, one year
membership to ARLIS/NA, and publication of abstract (or possibly paper) in
Art Documentation.
In addition to a mailing to Library/Information
Science programs, the
Committee identified specific library science faculty who teach courses
where papers or projects that fit our requirements might be written. A Gerd
Muehsam Award announcement was sent directly to each of them.
13 submissions were received for the 2001 award.
The Gerd Muehsam Award has been successfully
revitalized under the
leadership of chair Paula Gabbard.
Chapter Activities:
Monitored and participated in chapter list serve
discussions and provided
advice to chapter leadership as needed. Met with chapter members and
officers at ARLIS/NA conference. Encouraged monetary contributions to the
L.A. and St. Louis conference for Welcome Party and for Silent Auctions.
Shared information as relevant to the chapter(s) from the Executive Board.
ARLIS/Southern California Chapter
The chapter held four meetings in 2001, in
addition to being the host
chapter for the 2001 annual ARLIS/NA conference. The LA conference was
extremely successful in terms of program content, attendance and revenues.
The chapter raised money for the conference by t-shirt and magnet sales,
individual chapter member contributions (funds and in-kind), and well as a
wine tasting fundraiser.
Chapter meetings were held at the Skirball
Cultural Center, the Brand
Library, UCLA, and UC Santa Barbara.
ARLIS/Northern California Chapter
Attended May 2001 meeting in Menlo Park, CA.
The chapter held three meetings in 2001 at the
Anderson Art Collection in
Menlo Park, the Oliver Ranch and Sculpture Garden in Geyserville, Sonoma
County, and at the San Francisco Exploratorium.
ARLIS/Mt. West Chapter
Attended Mt. West Chapter conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Throughout the year I encouraged and supported
the chapter's assessment of
the feasibility of hosting a national conference in 2005.
The chapter hosted a fantastic multi-day regional
conference in Las Vegas,
Nevada. The chapter will be proposing Las Vegas as a possible site for the
2005 annual ARLIS/NA conference.
ARLIS/Northwest Chapter
The chapter held two meetings in 2001, at the
Vancouver Art Gallery and at
the University of British Columbia. Two committees were established, one to
review the chapter by-laws and the other to plan a future meeting in Banff.
The Banff meeting will be co-sponsored by the NW and Canadian Chapter.
Discussion regarding strategies for attracting new members to the chapter
was conducted.

University. Committee has 10 years of backfiles to contribute to archive.
West Chapters
Proposal for Mt. West Chapter to host the 2005 annual ARLIS/NA conference
in Las Vegas, Nevada.
