PUBLISHED

Occasional Paper No. 13, Library instruction for Students in the Design Disciplines:  Scenarios, Exercises, Techniques (ISBN 0-942740-19-X, ISSN 0730-7160), compiled by Jeanne M. Brown, was published in time for the joint conference in St. Louis.  It provides a practical guide, with examples of exercises and curricula, to developing an information literacy program for students of the visual arts.  Consisting of 180 pages and spiral-bound, the paper comprises 25 chapters and 19 contributors and features a print and Web bibliography.  Each chapter includes an abstract, statement of objectives, and self-evaluation.

PROPOSED

Stimulated directly by session 11 at the 29th annual conference in Los Angeles, Paul Glassman developed a proposal, in collaboration with the ARLIS/NA participants in the session (the recorder and a panelist), for an accreditation handbook, to be marketed to team visitors and evaluators.  Its objective is to amplify the sections on information resources in accreditation applications and to clarify criteria for evaluation art and design libraries.  The proposal will be presented for consideration at the Publications Committee meeting in St. Louis.

PROCEDURES

I revised the guidelines for occasional papers authors and added several suggestions relating to format and style.  Headquarters staff will be asked to file the notice of copyright.

PROMOTION

To promote the new occasional paper, in addition to the other publications, I developed a broadside for distribution at the joint conference; it can also serve as a print and Web advertisement and includes an order form.  I have requested that the publications brochure be revised to include the new paper.  The paper is listed in Books in Print and was announced over several group electronic-mail lists.  It will be promoted in conjunction with the Reference and Information Services Section meeting and with seminar 5 at the joint conference:  "Is a Picture Really Worth a Thousand Words?"
