Cataloging Advisory Committee, ARLIS/NA
Elizabeth O'Keefe took over the duties of Chair in 2001.
2001 committee members were: Sherman Clarke, Nancy Norris, Gertrude Olivetti, Daniel Starr, Elizabeth Robinson, Kay Teel.
CC:DA Representative (ex-officio; appointed by CAC chair): Anne Champagne ; Anne will be continuing in this role.
MARBI Representative (ex-officio; appointed by CAC chair): Elizabeth O'Keefe; Liz will be continuing in this role.
Work continued this year on drafting a rule interpretation for establishing buildings and other structures as name authorities; at year's end the proposal was nearing completion. The committee is considering expanding the Core for Exhibition Catalogs into guidelines for cataloguing documentation associated with art exhibitions.
Actions of the past year in regards to the Strategic Plan:
CATALOGING ADVISORY COMMITTEE
49. Identify, monitor, and report on bodies engaged in formulating policies and standards for cataloging art-related materials; provide advice and recommendations. [Cataloging S., Standards C.] [3.E.2.]
COMPLETED: At the request of the SCIPIO Taskforce
(a taskforce appointed by the Research Libraries Group Art & Architecture
Group), the committee reviewed a draft of the Scipio Cataloging Guide, which is
intended to provide guidance to catalogers contributing records to RLG's auction
and dealer catalogue database. The final document incorporates several changes
suggested by the committee.

65. (B) develop recommendations for the treatment of ancient sites and buildings and structures; (C) recommendations for treatment of artists-as-groups. [Cataloging Advisory C.] [3.D.2.]
B. IN PROGRESS. A draft of a Library of Congress
rule interpretation for buildings and other structures is in the final stages of
revision; it will be submitted early in 2002. The committee will consider
whether a proposal to establish ancient sites as names is needed.
C. RESOLVED. The recommendation from the Library of Congress Cross Reference
Task Group concerning cross references from individual to group (LC will not
make the references on authority records for architectural firms or artist
groups, but it will permit others to supply such references) is acceptable to
the CAC.
66. Evaluate, and make recommendations to CC:DA,
on the AACR2 revisions proposed by ARLIS.

ONGOING: The CC:DA Representative, Ann Champagne, monitors all CC:DA proposals for their relevance to art librarianship, and attends CC:DA's meetings at the Midwinter and Annual conferences of the American Library Association.
67. Assess and report on the suitability of the MARC format for encoding the cataloging of visual materials; recommend appropriate changes to the USMARC Advisory Board. [Cataloging Advisory C.] [3.D.4.]
