SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES

The Delaware Valley Chapter in conjunction with the New York and DC/MD/VA Chapters sponsored the ARLIS/NA Northeast Regional Meeting on May 13-14, 2001. Krista Ivy was the Program Chair and the Planning Committee consisted of Rachel Beckwith, Mary Louise Castaldi, Nancy Halli, Eileen Markson, Lilah Mittelstaedt, and Allen Townsend. Ed Deegan provided assistance with registration and financial duties. It was held at the Philadelphia Museum Of Art and Bryn Mawr College. Thirty-nine ARLIS members attended including Ted Goodman, ARLIS/NA President and Laurie Whitehill-Chong, ARLIS/NA Northeast Regional Representative. Activities included: panel presentations by Betty Jo Kish Irvine, Joan Stahl, and Jeffrey A. Cohen; gallery tour and lecture by Debra Cashion; ARTBibliographies Modern database demonstration; tour of Bryn Mawr campus; separate chapter and group business meetings.

During the summer, Chapter President Krista Ivy resigned unexpectedly in order to relocate to California.  Vice President/President-elect Mary Louise Castaldi assumed the duties of President in July, and will serve through 2002.  A Nominating Committee (Andrea Goldstein, Judy Donovan, and Ann Gardner) was appointed and charged with recruiting candidates for Vice President/President Elect and for Secretary-Treasurer.  After a difficult search, the Committee nominated Nancy Thorne for VP/P-E in 2002 (and thus for President in 2003) and Ed Deegan for a second term as Secretary-Treasurer in 2002-2003.

Twelve Chapter members attended the Fall Business meeting on October 22, 2001 hosted by Nancy Thorne at the Architectural Archives at the University of Pennsylvania. Before the meeting opened, Julia Moore Converse, Director of the Architectural Archives, welcomed the attendees and spoke briefly about the history and the current organization of the collection. The agenda included a business meeting followed by a demonstration of The Philadelphia Architects and Buildings Project (www.philadelphiabuildings.org), a web-based research tool. Business transacted included: unanimous election of Nancy Thorne for Vice-President/President-Elect; Ed Deegan to continue as Secretary/Treasurer for 2002-2003. There was a report on the 2001 ARLIS Conference by Mary Louise Castaldi, first recipient of the Marietta Bushnell Boyer Travel Award and a discussion of continued funding. A $250. donation to the St Louis Welcome Party was approved. A committee to explore professional development activities for Spring 2002 was set up.
