The ARLIS/DC-MD-VA chapter held two meetings in 2001. The spring meeting was combined with the Northeast Regional Conference at Bryn Mawr College. The May 13 and 14 meeting featured a tour and reception at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, a tour of the Carpenter Library, and an exhibition at the Canaday Library. Artbibliographies Modern Database had a representative to demonstrate their database; and a panel session on the art information profession in the 21st Century featured Betty Jo Kish Irvine, Joan Stahl, and Jeffrey A. Cohen. 

The fall meeting took place on November 2 and was a joint meeting with the VRA/DC-MD-VA chapter. The meeting began at the Building Museum in Washington, D.C. and included tours of the museum and their Resource Center. The afternoon session featured the new home of the offices of the Smithsonian Museum of American Art and included tours of the Library, Archives of American Art, and Image Collections. 

Among the business conducted during the 2001 year, was the codification of rules and procedures for the Caroline Backlund Professional Development Award. An award committee was designated consisting of  Sheila Klos, Ann Whiteside and Sally Stokes. Sheila is serving as committee chair. Emily Connell was awarded the first Caroline Backlund Professional Development Award. 

The chapter is hosting the 2003 Annual Conference in Baltimore. The Conference Committee met twice in 2001. Chapter members serving on the Conference Committee are: Joan Stahl, Programs Chair; Linda Tompkins-Baldwin, Local Arrangments Chair; Anita Carrico, Exhibitions; Marjorie Chenoweth, Tours & Transportation; Katherine Cowan, Web Site Manager; Don Juedes, Publicity; Greg Most, Fundraising.
