Co-chairs for the Diversity Committee are Eric Schwab, Assistant Curator of the Knight Visual Resources Facility at Cornell University and Marilyn Russell-Bogle, Fine Arts Librarian at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
Business Meeting March 18th, 2000:
It was decided that the current design
of the Diversity website is in need of redesign and updating and should
be the focus of many of the Diversity Committee’s activities in the coming
year. It was also decided that members interested in the redesign
of the webpage should be given access to it in order to expand and update
this resource when the need arises.
Members of the Diversity Committee discussed
how the webpage could easily be a made into a much more vital resource
for finding information on relevant diversity issues. The page needs to
be designed in such a way that it acts as not only a resource within the
ARLIS community, but also as a resource for anyone surfing the web who
is interested in current diversity issues.
Marilyn Russell-Bogle presented a program
proposal dealing with cultural diversity. The title of the program is 'Native
American Art Now: Reflecting Contemporary Realities'. Marilyn and Joan
Benedetti plan to organize a panel of artists, curators, teachers, and
librarians, most of whom will be Native Californians or Native Americans
currently residing in California.
Co-Sponsorship 2000:
GLIRT's session 9 'Researching Andy: The Use of the Andy Warhol Archives and Study Center for Gay Research' co-sponsored by the Diversity Committee, on March 20, 2000.
Activities 2000/2001:
The committee is currently working on the redesign and update of the Diversity portion of the ARLIS/NA website so that it reflects current members and documentation but also adds more up to date, useful information and links related to Diversity. We are also concerned with making it more easily navigable. Members have submitted lists of new links to add to the site and Eric Schwab is working on the HTML design and logistics. At the upcoming business meeting in Los Angeles, a demo of the updated site should be available.
Executive Board Concerns:
The committee is concerned about making the transition of this updated site to the ARLIS/NA webpage with ease and will consult with Roberto Ferrari to make this transition an easy one.
Co-Sponsorship 2001:
The Diversity Committee will co-sponsor the session: 'Contemporary Native American Art: Challenges for Artists, Curators, Scholars, Librarians, and Educators' at the LA conference on Tuesday, April 3rd 2001. The session is also being co-sponsored by the Museum Library Division, the Indigenous Art and Culture Round Table, and the Women and Art Round Table. Co-Moderators: Dr. Marilyn Russell-Bogle (Ojibwe), Fine Arts Librarian and Diversity Committee Co-Chair, University of Minnesota, Duluth; Joan M. Benedetti, Cataloger, L.A.
