SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES
The Delaware Valley Chapter of ARLIS/NA and the Visual Resources Association, Pennsylvania Chapter held a joint meeting at Winterthur on May 1st. Hosted by Rachel Beckwith, the meeting included tours of the museum and grounds, as well as separate ARLIS/NA and VRAP Chapter business meetings. Thirteen ARLIS/NA DVC members attended, along with ARLIS/NA’s Northeast Regional Representative, Deborah Kempe. Discussions at the spring business meeting included the results of a recent membership survey conducted by Past President, Mary Wassermann, a new DVC Professional Development Award in memory of Marietta Bushnell Boyer, and a possible regional meeting with the New York Chapter. These discussions motivated several activities during the year including the appointment of a committee to develop guidelines for the Chapter’s Professional Development Award, further Executive Committee discussions regarding the Chapter bylaws, and continued investigation of the regional meeting idea by Krista Ivy and New York Chapter President, Clayton Kirking. Chapter members Karen Lightner, Nancy Halli and Lilah Mittelstaedt volunteered to serve as the Nominating Committee for the coming year.
Between the Chapter’s spring and fall meetings, the Professional Development Award Committee (Jean Adelman, retired member, formerly of the University of Pennsylvania’s University Museum; Eileen Markson and Nancy Halli, both from Bryn Mawr College) met several times to develop guidelines for the Award. Chapter Officers met shortly before the fall meeting to review the bylaws, and resolved that changes in the bylaws were not necessary, although several initiatives were discussed to create more interest in Chapter activities including the possibility of a listserv or a webpage featuring news from the membership. Krista Ivy continued discussions with New York Chapter President, Clayton Kirking and Betty Jo Irvine regarding the spring 2001 regional meeting. The Nominating Committee identified Mary Louise Castaldi as a nominee for Vice President/President-Elect for 2001/2002.
Seventeen members and one non-member attended the fall Chapter meeting held at the Philadelphia Museum of Art on November 3, 2000. The agenda included a tour of the Museum’s newly-acquired Perelman Building, conducted by Robert Morrone, Director of Operations. The annual business meeting followed, during which the creation of the Chapter’s new Marietta Bushnell Boyer Professional Development Award, the spring 2001 regional meeting with the New York Chapter, and a $250 donation to the Los Angeles Conference Planning Committee were approved by attendees. Also during the business meeting, Secretary/Treasurer, Ed Deegan reported a streamlining of the Chapter’s mailing list which now includes a total of 53 names, 30 of whom are members and 23 non-members. Mary Louise Castaldi was elected unanimously as Vice-President/President-Elect for 2001/2002.
Post-meeting donations to the new Boyer Professional Development Award have allowed the Chapter to offer $500 toward the cost of attending the Los Angeles Conference during the Spring of 2001. Krista Ivy continued to work with the New York Chapter toward planning the regional meeting, which will take place at Bryn Mawr College, May 13 & 14, 2001 and will feature a lecture by Betty Jo Irvine.
