Interlibrary
Loan Discussion Group
Session
Recorder: Hannah Bennett, Art Institute of Chicago
Lilah
Mittelstadt of the Philadelphia Museum of Art moderated the meeting.
Following
introductions of all attendees, the first topic of discussion was RLG’s ILL
Manager software. Dennis Massie of
RLG was present and took questions regarding the implementation, support, and
use of the software. By June 30th,
SHARES libraries will no longer be able to borrow materials directly through
RLIN. Many art libraries in SHARES
have committed to ILL Manager and plan to install it before the June 30th
deadline. Dennis mentioned that in
addition to searching RLIN via ILL Manager, it was also possible to search and
order via OCLC as ILL Manager is Z39.50 compliant. Dennis announced that in a few weeks’ time there would be
an online training forum whereby new ILL Manager users would be able to learn
more about the system and raise questions about problems they are having with
implementation. Hannah Bennett
shared her experience installing ILL Manager and integrating it into the old
borrowing and lending procedures at the Art Institute.
Other topics briefly discussed were 1) other libraries (not represented at the meeting) who are considering joining SHARES; 2) some shipping issues; and 3) lending and borrowing to and from non-RLG, OCLC libraries.
