Student Diversity Award

for Conference Attendance

This award was established by ARLIS/NA to provide funding for a student to attend the ARLIS/NA Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, April 26-30, 2007.

A mentor from the ARLIS/NA Diversity Committee, who will facilitate the recipient's attendance at the Conference, will be assigned to the recipient of the award prior to the Conference.

The recipient will write a brief post-conference report evaluating her/his conference experience for the ARLIS/NA Update Diversity column.

Award may be used for expenses related to attendance at the conference: ARLIS/NA student membership, conference registration, travel, lodging, etc.

Eligibility Requirements:

To be considered for the award, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Be enrolled as a graduate student in Library Studies or Information Studies or recently graduated (within 12 mos. of graduation)
  • Be a U.S. resident and a member of a racial/ethnic group as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau: African American/Black; Latino/Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander, or American Indian/Alaska Native
    or
    Be a Canadian resident and of aboriginal identity, as defined in the Canadian Employment Equity Act ("aboriginal peoples" means persons who are Indians, Inuit, or Métis)
    or
    Be a Canadian resident and a member of a visible minority, as defined by the Canadian Employment Equity Act (members of "visible minorities" means persons, other than aboriginal peoples, who are non-Caucasian in race or non-white in colour)
  • Be interested in career in art librarianship/visual resources

Application Procedures & Deadline:

  1. Letter of application (three page maximum) stating the name of award, your eligibility, your specific interests and expectations for the conference, as well as your goals for professional development. Please list any ARLIS/NA Travel Awards previously received. Please list any previous ARLIS/NA conferences attended.
  2. A resume (one page maximum) listing employment history, education, and professional activities.
  3. Projected conference expenses (registration, travel, lodging, meals) and expected institutional or departmental financial support.
  4. Contact information including: fax number, email address, and the names of two (2) professional references with their addresses, phone and fax numbers.
